Community Involvement

We are proud that Lukins & Annis works to make a difference in our communities. As a firm, we support a number of organizations and agencies that serve to improve our communities and citizens. As individual attorneys and staff members, we are involved in a variety of professional, civic, home, school, and church organizations and activities.

Firm Contributions: Our Charitable Contributions Committee reviews and approves donations throughout the year to a variety of organizations and events.

Following are a number of activities in which we have been involved:

Transitional Programs: Annually, we provide funding for this important group. This organization includes Women's Hearth (formerly Women's Drop-In Center), Myriam's House, and TLC (Transitional Living Centers).

East Central Community Center: Each year, the Center holds a Christmas dinner, complete with a visit from Santa Claus for more than 1200 people, including 500 children. Each child receives an age appropriate gift from Santa. We have assisted this effort financially.

Coeur d'Alene's EXCEL Foundation "Leave No Moose Behind" and Ronald McDonald's "Bear Necessities" Fundraisers: We proudly "adopted" Tribal Tatoose (a Moose) and Kody 'n Blue Fishin' (a Bear) for a season, then bid them a fond farewell as they were auctioned off in the fall. While these projects were financially very successful, their real success was in the beauty and enjoyment the artwork brought to their communities.

Spokane County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Program. As a volunteer organization with few funds, VLP needed help with their computer system. To the rescue--our L&A Super Heroes--our I.S. staff. For their successful efforts and hours given in updating the VLP computer system, the firm received the Large Law Firm of the Year award in 2005. We continue to support them annually through the Auction.

Bloomsday. We sponsor one or two corporate teams every year in the largest timed run in the world. This year our teams came in 1st and 4th in their divisions.

Northwest Autism Center. We are pleased to provide in-kind printing assistance for this start-up agency. They serve as a much needed voice in advocating for children and families living with autism.

Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Race for the Cure: We were a corporate sponsor for Spokane's first annual event. Additionally, a number of our employees walked for two teams: Team Lisa, in honor of Lisa Stiles Gyllenhammer, the daughter of L&A attorney Ted Stiles, who lost her courageous battle to cancer in January 2006; and Susan's Sensational Stars, in honor of Susan Cerutti-Jensen, daughter of L&A attorney Pat Cerutti, who recently completed chemotherapy for breast cancer and who speaks out publicly about this insidious disease.

Spokane Humane Society's Parade of Paws: This event was held in June 2006. Our firm team--The Legal Beagles--walked their own or shelter dogs in the Society's third annual fundraiser. The team raised funds by selling homemade "Scrump-doggie-licious" biscuits/treats.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Northwest: We annually participate in "Take a Bite Out of Hunger" and "Fastkarts 4 Food." Both of these enjoyable events benefit the many families in our region who can use assistance making ends meet.

Women Helping Women Foundation: By participating in the annual luncheon which raises in excess of $200,000 each year, along with one of our attorneys being on the Foundation's Board, our small contribution aids the Foundation in helping our region's women and their futures.

Financial Assistance: The firm has pledged financial assistance to:

  • The Y's Capital Campaign, a unique collaborative effort of the YMCA and YWCA in their facilities' expansion;
  • The Fox Theatre, a Capital Campaign to restore the beautiful Fox Theatre which will be home to the Spokane Symphony for many of their concerts.

Sponsorships:

  • Hoopfest: One of our attorneys, Terry Kelly, former WSU basketball team member, was a founding member of Hoopfest. Former firm administrator, Rick Steltenpohl, is the executive director of Hoopfest.
  • Various golf tournaments: Hospice; GSI, Post Falls Rotary
