Early Wednesday morning, Michael Maurer, current firm President, communicated, "Our founder, partner, mentor, and great friend Gene Annis passed away yesterday. While the world is a little darker place today, Gene would want each of us to carry on with the enthusiasm, passion and dedication he always had for the law."
For over 50 years, Gene exemplified all the qualities of professional and personal excellence through his leadership in our firm, prominence in the legal profession and the local community. Gene was well known for his high standards and professional demeanor, which earned him the tremendous respect of colleagues, clients, community leaders, and institutions. He was a fine example of professionalism and we are tremendously saddened by his passing.
Gene and his good friend, Scott Lukins, founded Lukins & Annis in 1972. From its original members, Lukins & Annis quickly grew to a firm of more than 50 attorneys, practicing law in four offices located in Washington and Idaho.
Gene served with dedication and distinction on numerous boards and committees, including Spokane County Bar Association, Washington State Board of Bar Examiners, member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Washington, Lawyer Representative to the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference, Gonzaga University of Board of Regents, Catholic Charities Low-Income Housing Corporation Board, Ronald McDonald House and many others.
Gene was a consummate gentleman, diplomat, and humanitarian. While he will be greatly missed by all, he will always be remembered as a great lawyer and professional.
