Question: As an employer do I have to offer healthcare to my full-time employees?
Answer: Maybe. The Affordable Care Act/Obamacare requires "large employers" to offer health insurance to their full-time equivalent employees. Obamacare provides special rules to determine whether any particular employee is "full-time equivalent." These rules can be complicated. To avoid Obamacare penalties, large employers should consult with a knowledgeable attorney to ensure the employer (a) is accurately calculating whether each employee is a full-time equivalent employee, and (b) has a system in place to review and re-assess each employee's full-time status per the requirements of Obamacare.
